Caring for The Aperture Case
Essential maintenance guidelines to preserve natural hardwoods, brass hardware, and interior lining for a lifetime of use.
American Walnut Body
The exterior of your case is crafted from solid American Walnut and finished with natural oils to protect the wood while highlighting its organic grain. Wood is a living material that responds to its environment, making proper care essential to maintain its lustre and structural integrity.
Daily Handling: Dust the exterior periodically using a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Avoid applying harsh household detergents, abrasive cleaners, or glass sprays, as these will strip the protective finish.
Moisture Exposure: Keep your case away from prolonged direct water exposure. If liquid spills on the surface, wipe it away immediately with a clean, absorbent towel and allow the wood to air dry at room temperature.
Environmental Stability: Avoid leaving your case in high heat or extreme moisture environments, such as a hot vehicle dashboard or a humid bathroom. Rapid shifts in temperature and humidity can cause natural solid wood to expand, contract, or warp over time.
Brass Hardware, Felt, & Magnets
Ohio Brass Hinges: The solid brass hardware is chosen for its strength and precision alignment. Brass naturally oxidizes over time, developing a soft, warm aged character. If you prefer to maintain a bright metallic sheen, apply a tiny drop of specialized brass polish using a fine cotton swab, taking care not to saturate the surrounding wood.
Canadian Felt Interior: The interior lining is made from felt to cushion your frames and protect optics. To clean dust, lint, or debris from inside the case, use a gentle blast of compressed air or lightly dab the surface with a piece of painter's tape. Do not scrub the felt with liquid cleaners or damp sponges, as moisture can alter the texture.
Magnetic Alignments & Insert: The concealed neodymium magnets require no active maintenance. Ensure the recess housing the magnetic tracking capsule remains clean and free of loose metal debris to guarantee a flush, self-aligning closure every time.
